Where Is The Money To Be Made W/loan Crisis?

I see a lot of similarities with the loan market now to what happened during the savings and loan crisis of the 80's. I was not around to look at what the opportunities were then, and where money was made, and would like to know if anyone out here does. Was it in buying the deprecaited properties? was there certain stock types to buy? did gold go up? Any tips and links to articles will be helpful http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savings_and_Loan_crisis http://www.fdic.gov/bank/historical/s&l/

  1. well, you are late shorting the problem IMO - if you look at these tickers LEND, AHM, NFI, BZH - you could've made a tidy bundle on the downside - but the worst case scenario is pretty much baked in the cake. I would not go long those names because they went down for a reason - they're the riskiest. a good way to make money here over the long run is to buy large regional banks, and top shelf investment banks.
  2. If I were a trader, I would look for companies that are heavily exposed to high-risk debt of any kind, and SHORT sell them. People get hung up on what to buy. Imagine if you had shorted a few subprime lenders?
  3. You need to hire a Portfolio Manager with over a decade of experience in the Stock Markets like myself as soon as possible.
  4. CNS or any other similar stock that was decimated by association but did not deserve it.
